Your day begins before sunrise, as our driver picks you up from your hotel in Zanzibar and transfers you to the airport for your short domestic flight. As the plane lifts off, enjoy stunning aerial views of the Indian Ocean giving way to the expansive Tanzanian mainland.

Arrival at Mikumi Airstrip – Safari Briefing and Game Drive Begins

Upon landing at Mikumi Airstrip, your experienced safari guide will be waiting to greet you. After a quick safari briefing, you’ll board your private 4×4 safari vehicle and venture straight into the wilderness. The morning hours are prime game-viewing time—perfect for spotting predators returning from the night hunt and herbivores gathering at water sources.

Game Drive Across the Mkata Floodplain

Mikumi is often called the “mini-Serengeti” for its wide open plains and impressive wildlife density. As you drive through the park, look out for elephants, giraffes browsing on acacia trees, buffaloes trudging across the floodplains, zebras, wildebeest, and—if lucky—lions or even the elusive leopard lounging in a tree. Your guide will help you track the animals and share fascinating insights about the park’s ecosystem.

Midday: Bush Lunch in the Park

Around midday, you’ll stop at a designated picnic site for a fresh packed lunch in the heart of the bush. It’s a peaceful moment to stretch your legs and soak in the natural beauty around you, with the sounds of birds and rustling grass completing the ambiance.

Afternoon Game Drive – More Wildlife Encounters

After lunch, continue your exploration of the park with an afternoon game drive, this time covering different sections of the park to spot additional species and enjoy more of Mikumi’s varied landscapes—from riverine forests to grasslands. This is your chance to catch anything you may have missed in the morning and capture the perfect wildlife photos.

Late Afternoon: Return Flight to Zanzibar
